New Butterfly-Themed Splash Pad Opens at Monarch Park, La Porte

 

Kids couldn't ask for more on another scorching hot afternoon in Houston than to make a splash on a brand-new, butterfly-themed splash pad at Monarch Park in La Porte.

 

Monarch Park, formerly known as Fairmont Park West, got a new playground last year and has recently unveiled its new splash pad with many cool water features and ample covered seating.

 

There are many cool sprinklers,  in-ground sprayers, and all kinds of critters and flowers that shoot water.  This action-packed splash pad is all you need when temperatures in Houston reach the upper 90s. Just don't forget to use sunscreen. 

 

 

The water bucket in the middle was the most popular play feature for my littles. They never knew when the next curtain of water would come down on them. That element of surprise kept the kids entertained and soaking wet the entire time we were there.

 

 

This park lives up to its name. All the cute butterflies as accents and stand-alone water features add so much personality to the splash pad and are perfect for taking fun summer pictures. 

 

 

All pieces of equipment on a splash pad are spaced out, allowing room for kids to interact with the features without bumping into each other.

 

 

Amenities 

There are five covered picnic tables in the splash pad area and a small covered pavilion near the parking lot. There's also a brand-new playground with some covered seating area and a few benches at the perimeter. Both the playground and splash pad are fenced with a green open space between the two. However, at the time of the visit, there wasn't a fence between the splash pad and the playground.

As nice as this playground is, it doesn't provide any shade during the peak sun hours. Early morning and evening could be the optimal times to visit this playground for a sun-safe play.  

Unfortunately, we also didn't see restrooms on-site, so you may have to account for that too.

 

 

The splash pad at Monarch Park is a perfect spot for hours of summer fun. To activate a sprayground, just push a button at the entrance.

 

Key Features:

• No public restrooms, so plan accordingly
• Plenty of covered adjacent benches for guardians
• The area is clean, well-maintained, and not too busy
• The splash pad is fenced-in
• A butterfly-inspired playground is located across the green field from the splash pad
