Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail

The Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail is a 28-mile multi-use trail that is a true treasure in Greenville County. As you explore the trail, you'll be treated to an incredible variety of beautiful sights, from lush green woods to peaceful lakes and everything in between. And if you're traveling with kids, you'll love all the best parks and playgrounds along the greenway. With its convenient location and easy accessibility, the Swamp Rabbit Trail is the perfect way to get outside and enjoy the beauty of nature without leaving the city.

Originally the defunct Greenville & Northern Railway, the roadbed was purchased by the Greenville County Economic Development Corporation in 1999, with plans for a greenway and light rail passenger line. When plans for the commuter rail fell through, the idea of a multi-use trail was proposed, and even though it faced obstacles such as heavy overgrowth and legal issues, the trail was officially opened in 2009.

The trail starts at Greenville Technical College and winds its way through the city of Greenville, passing through beautiful parks like Cleveland, Falls and Unity parks. As you continue along the trail, you'll also get to enjoy stunning views of the lake and the Bell Tower at Furman University. The path ends within the city limits of Travelers Rest, giving you a chance to explore this charming town and its brand new Trailblazer Park at the end. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just looking for a leisurely stroll, the Swamp Rabbit Trail has something for everyone.

1. Cleveland Park

We like to start our Swamp Rabbit trail adventure at this amazing park! Located just outside of downtown Greenville, this sprawling park is the oldest and largest in the area. With so many things to discover, like the Rock Quarry Garden, the Greenville Zoo, paved and nature trails, 3 playgrounds, workout stations, and picnic shelters, there's no shortage of things to explore. And the fact that there's usually a snow cone truck around only adds to the fun! Although some of the equipment may have been around for a while, the park has been carefully maintained and improved over the years. The recent addition of a new shade umbrella over the play equipment is certainly a welcome improvement.
