Roper Mountain is a state-of-the-art science center in Greenville that offers a fantastic opportunity to explore the natural world and how it works in an accessible and welcoming space. You can meet dinos on the trails, learn about the Earth's water cycle, catch a planetarium show, experience farming at a historic farm, get up close and personal with a Madagascar hissing cockroach, and even pet a stingray at the Marine Lab, and much more! A variety of hands-on exhibits will certainly amaze you.
Exhibits: Environmental Science Building
Opened in 2021, this center spans 30,000 square feet and includes several exhibits. The upper level features the Sustainable Future, Nature Exchange and Habitat walkthrough as well as classrooms and spaces for special themed exhibits in the summer. The lower level houses the Water Story, Connections Café and a huge aquarium.
Here science becomes an adventure and all the pieces of the center serve just that.
Harrison Hall of Natural Sciences
Upon entering, you'll walk through the indoor rainforests of Asia, Africa and the Americas with a variety of plants and animals,
then head to the Marine Lab for the chance to pet stingrays, starfish and horseshoe crabs,
before ending your walk at the Ecology Lab where you'll learn about key ecosystems of South Carolina.
Playgrounds
There are two great imaginative play areas on the grounds, which are always a highlight of our visit. If you have little pirates in your family, be sure to plan to spend some time here. The pirate playground features slides, ropes, riders and more. It's perfect for imaginative play like sunken treasure hunting and water cannon shooting!
Here's another playground just steps away from the pirate ship. Inspired by the Jurassic Era's mega-predators, this play area also features a wooden observation tower and is ideal for hours of fun.
Roper Mountain Science Center truly has something for everyone and is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a science adventure in Greenville.
