The Spartanburg Science Center is a great spot to spend a summer day with the kiddos! With over a dozen cool STEM exhibits, they'll be busy learning and having fun without even realizing it. There's even a live animal room where they can get up close and personal with some amazing wildlife. Plus, right across the way is a splash pad to beat the heat and make the day even more epic!
We put off visiting this center for a long time, but finally decided to make it happen. Guess, the long, monotonous summer days with kids cooped up at home call for a road trip. And, wow, was it worth it! The Spartanburg Science Center didn't disappoint. Who needs a fancy vacation when you can explore something new and exciting in your own backyard? Sometimes the best vacations are the ones closest to home!
The drive from Greenville to the Spartanburg Science Center is about 30 minutes. The GPS led us to the Chapman Cultural Center, it took us a minute to find our way around, but once we did, we had a blast exploring the exhibits!
Before you even enter the center, you can already have fun with different interactive objects lining the hallway. Pedal a bike to generate electricity, play with a mesmerizing glass sphere, or learn a few things about recycling.
Upon entering the center, you'll discover a live animal room to your right. Many turtles, snakes, and lizards call it their home. During our visit, we got up close and personal with a lovable turtle named Rosie!
Ahead, a variety of hands-on exhibits unfold, featuring a LEGO wall, marble run, claw machine, antique typewriter, race tracks, and a massive wooden-block replica of the Notre Dame de Paris, to name a few.
For little ones, there's a busy table stocked with cars, Duplo Legos, and wooden tracks, along with a huge busy cube to keep them engaged.
Next, the biology and anatomy lab awaits, with human body models, fossils, rocks, and taxidermy displays.
As you exit the room, you'll find the science theater, where you can learn about the wonders of the microscopic world and the solar system.
This small space is a knowledge-packed gem, offering a fresh surprise at every step, making you eager to loop back and re-experience it all. We circled through several times before finally calling it a day.
