We love a good playground — but in the summer? We love a good playground with a splash pad even more. And when we stumble upon that perfect summer combo, you know we can’t keep quiet! South Carolina is packed with family-friendly gems, and one of our favorites is just a road trip away. In just 1.5 hours from Greenville, you’ll land at a spot that checks all the summer fun boxes — Saluda Shoals Park in Columbia, SC.
With an incredible inclusive playground and a splash pad that’s made for cooling off on hot days, this park is everything you need for a day of play, spray, and unforgettable memories.
Saluda Splash Pad
Separate paid admission (~$5/person, wristbands required)
When
the sun is shining, head over to Saluda Splash, a zero-depth splash pad
that’s packed with summer fun. Watch the kids dart between dump
buckets, water sprayers, and cannons, all while you relax in shaded
seating nearby.
Saluda Splash isn’t gated, but it’s set away from the parking lot, which helps keep it separated from traffic and more comfortable for families with little kids. The splash pad is on the smaller side but full of fun, featuring classic favorites like dumping buckets, spraying arches, shooting animals, and fountains that keep kids laughing and active.
The splash pad has all kinds of fun for kids of every age. The little ones can splash around under gentle sprayers that shoot water close to the ground and wander through misty arches that are just right—not too wild. Meanwhile, the older kids can’t get enough of dumping buckets that dump a big splash and the spinning and shooting water features that keep the excitement going. Honestly, there’s something for everyone here.
As an added bonus, there’s a covered playground right next to the splash pad. It’s not huge, but kids love it, and the complete shade makes it a great spot to take a break from the sun while still having fun nearby.
A lifeguard is on duty for added safety, and wristbands can be easily purchased on site. Part of the splash area benefits from natural shade, offering a bit of relief on hot days, though seating right next to the pad is limited—bringing your own chair or picnic blanket is a good idea. It’s a cheerful, low-key spot where kids can cool off and enjoy every drop. The splash pad is open seasonally, so be sure to check current hours before visiting! Restrooms and changing areas are conveniently located close by.
