Downtown Tryon Lights, NC

Downtown Tryon, NC, is such a beautiful walkable area with a ton of Christmas spirit and small European town vibes. We strolled down Trade Street, surrounded by delightful decorations and feeling like characters out of a Hallmark Christmas movie.

Tryon, NC

Dubbed “The Friendliest Town in the South,” Tryon is nestled at the base of the Blue Ridge Escarpment in western North Carolina. This is a small community with a big punch. In the 1800s, Tryon became a magnet for tourists with the arrival of the rail line between Spartanburg, SC, and Asheville, NC. Throughout the 19th century, Tryon also became known for its equestrian activities and vineyards.

Today, Tryon is a small, charming village of 2,000 people with strong traditions in equestrianism, wine-making, the arts, and Christmas celebrations. And if you just happen upon this place during the holidays, take an enchanted stroll through this gorgeous downtown for a wholesome dose of holiday cheer.

The entire square oozes classic European charm encased by a mountain scenery all around.

There are some vibrant touches of children's craft everywhere – gingerbread men on store windows and handmade ornaments on Christmas trees.

The Tryon Horse

The symbol of this tiny town is the Tryon Horse. Built in 1928 for parade at Tryon Riding & Hunt Club show by two boys at Tryon Toy Makers, this replica represents renown handcrafted miniature horse-on-wheels first made and designed by Toy Makers founder Eleanor Vance.

The Tryon Elementary School creates mini-Morris the Horse ornaments and other decorations to adorn this downtown tree.
