We were hiking in the Tallulah Gorge State Park in Georgia and on our way back home to Greenville, decided to stop by this unique roadside attraction—Goats On The Roof. And what a blaaast it was!
Driving by, we already knew we would love this place. It looked big, fun, and quirky, with goats roaming around on the roof, in the shed, and even along a suspension bridge. We couldn't help but take a pit stop.
Watched closely by the locals on the roof, we parked at the back of the country store by the animal barn and headed for the grounds to explore.
The kids made a beeline for the goats in the enclosed area by the parking lot. After the first encounter, we went to the country store to get some goat food.
And here they are back at it again with extra vigor and enthusiasm, teaching the goats some good manners about sharing and taking turns.
Have you heard this? There are three things you can watch forever: fire burning, water falling, and, let me amend the ending, goat shenanigans. At least, it's true for my kids. They couldn't get enough of them.
Munching on their favorite snack, the locals also made themselves at home on a bridge that connects Rock and Country Store.
There are multiple spots and ways to feed the animals. You can feed them by putting your hand out and letting them graze it or by using simple pulleys. Just place the food in the cup and use a grip handle to propel it up. As you might expect, the roof locals come running for the snack as soon as you start pulling on the handle, making the clanking sound.
Another fun way to feed the goats is to pedal the bike.
The kids probably could have spent all day feeding the goats, but we had other exciting things in store.
Gifts & Homemade Goodies
Nitro ice-cream and homemade fudge are other most popular attractions – after the goats, of course. This place has a little something for everyone.
You can also mine for gems.
Get the kids wiggles out on the playground.
And snap one-of-a-kind pictures with all the fun photo props, from the large photo cutout boards where you stick you face through to complete an image to goat sculptures. During the Christmas season, there's also a fun backdrop to take your holiday pictures with Santa and his goat.
This place offers a plethora of kid-friendly things to do:
