Best Parks in Houston

 

A great playground always makes for an easy quick escape. With a whopping number of parks and green spaces, you will never run out of places to explore with the kids in Houston. Here are the coolest playgrounds to get you started.


1. Levy Park - Houston 

Where: 3801 Eastside St

Levy Park is a well-established urban park with a plethora of things to do from sunup to sunset year-round. The enclosed imaginative children's play area, a huge water feature, turf hills, free game and art carts, and nearly daily special activities for all ages (i.e., concerts, storytimes, special events) make this park one of the best parks in Houston! Many shaded pockets of fun and expansive open grass areas provide plenty of room to run, climb, and roll. Food trucks and kiosks are on site too, for when you feel like grabbing a bite.

2. Evelyn Park - Houston

Where: 4400 Bellaire Blvd, Bellaire, TX 77401

Located in the heart of Houston, Evelyn's Park is like nothing else. It bursts with imaginative play spaces, natural play elements, challenging climbing and balancing features, tunnels, hill slides, and a splash pad. Although all the play elements are unique in their own way, these are the giant wooden bird play feature and the 24-foot interactive Alice in Wonderland bronze sculpture that make this park one-of-a-kind.

3. Discovery Green - Houston

Where: 1500 McKinney St, Houston, TX 77010

Located in the heart of downtown at the park that recently underwent a $12 million renovation, this brand-new urban playground deserves its accolades. The play area features the coolest play structures, ample seating, and open grassy spaces to just run free. A climbing hill in the middle of it seems to be the favorite thing among the kids to climb up and slide down from. This park is one of the best places in Houston to make memories.

4. Nature Arboretum - Houston

Where: 4501 Woodway Drive, Houston, TX 77024

The Houston Arboretum has the best-kept secret in town – a nature-inspired, brand-new playground "Nature Playscape." A new playground is not your average play space. Unlike a traditional playground, this one was designed to blend into and enhance its environment. Nature play at its best. The rope bridge, a variety of sandboxes, tree stumps, a bamboo climber, plenty of logs, and shaded areas inspire kids to play on their own terms, make up their games, and explore away nature for hours.

5. Exploration Park - Katy

Where: 15020 Cinco Park Rd, Katy, TX 77450

This epic park in Katy has plenty of fun things for all ages. It's packed with various slides and swings, turf hills, and climbing and balancing structures. There is a shaded pavilion with picnic tables, clean bathrooms, grills, and water fountains. It’s completely fenced in. The colorful playscape is unique, safe, and fun!

6. Sylvan Beach - La Porte

Address: 636 N Bayshore Dr, La Porte, TX 77571

The Sylvan Beach Park is just a short drive from Houston, but it can feel a world away once the gentle sound of waves, the feel of fine sand underfoot, and water views for miles welcome you there.  With a nice small beach, a shaded playground, fine white sand, rinse showers, a fishing pier, and plenty of picnic pockets, this park makes for a great family-friendly destination. It's a great escape from the bustle and hustle of the city without driving too far. The parking is plentiful and free. However, the park attracts big crowds on holidays and weekends, so you may want to arrive early to find a parking spot or visit on week days.

7. Stevenson Park - Friendswood 

Where: 1100 S Friendswood Dr, Friendswood, TX 77546

This awesome city park features a naturally-shaded playground, a beautiful flower garden, a splash pad, ball courts, and a 0.5-mile walking trail under a lush canopy of towering trees. And that's not all. There's a fairy trail with many tiny hidden houses throughout Stevenson Park. Some mighty fairies and trolls reside behind those miniature doors. They keep watch over the park and surely will add some magic to your otherwise ordinary trip to the park. The trail is nothing if not pure joy. So grab your family and go on an adventure.

8. Challenger Seven Memorial Park - Webster

Where:  2301 W Nasa Blvd, Webster, TX 77598

This is a huge park with miles of scenic hiking trails, multiple fully-shaded playgrounds, shaded picnic tables, covered pavilions, swing chairs, and open green spaces for the kids to work those wiggles out. The park was named in honor of the seven NASA astronauts who lost their lives in the explosion of the Challenger Space Shuttle.

9. Clear Lake Park - Seabrook 

Where: 5001 E NASA Pkwy, Seabrook, TX 77586

This is a Texas-sized playground on the water with all sorts of play structures that feel like an adventure. There are two separate, big playgrounds—one is for kids ages 5 to 12, and a play area geared toward  younger kids with a fenced-in splash pad adjacent to it. A huge well-kept playground area, plenty of picnic tables, green spaces, a fishing pier, beautiful sweeping views of the Galveston Bay, and proximity to the Space Center Houston and Kemah Boardwalk set this park apart from the others and make it worth a day trip from Houston.

10. Bay Area Park – Houston

Where: 7500 Bay Area Blvd, Houston, TX 77058

This park is only 10 minutes away from Clear Lake Park and has so many reasons to visit. Perched on the shores of Armand Bayou and surrounded by natural beauty, this park features two play areas designed for children of all ages, a brand-new fenced-in splash pad, walking trails, a zip-line, and a few very hungry raccoons roaming around and looking for food at night. It also has a pier, a flower garden, and a dog park.

 

Bay Area Park – Houston

 

Any of these playgrounds is worth the trip. They truly are the coolest playgrounds in Houston.
