McKinney Park in Woodruff now has the best of two worlds: a spacious play area for kids of all ages and a Christmas tree perfect for family photos. The Upstate has no shortage of Christmas festivities, and some of the very best will take place in city parks.
The Christmas Tree is now up and ready for pictures at McKinney Park in Woodruff, SC. The lightening ceremony will be held on November 30 at 5:30pm. In addition, the park will also host Pictures with Santa nightly in December.
And if you are there just for a playground, it's a great place for kids to spend a few hours climbing, sliding and running free. The park sits right next to the downtown area and includes a ball field, amphitheater, concession stand, picnic shelters, a playground, outdoor exercise equipment, a short walking trail, a seasonal splash pad, and a community library within walking distance.
The play area has two separate play structures geared toward kids of different ages and located on opposite sides of the seasonal splash pad. The area for the littlest has gentle slides, a peek-a-boo tunnel, a silly caterpillar climber, and low-level climbing features.
The play equipment at this park is not much different from what you can find in many other small city parks around the Upstate, except a splash pad area and a Christmas tree which become a big hit with the kids during their due seasons.
Next to the area for older kids, you will also find double-sided activity and sensory boards for tactile play.
Note, the playground has no natural shade and the equipment is only partially shaded by small umbrellas. At this time of the year, it actually feels nice to play in the sun, but if visiting in the summer, plan on going early in the morning or later in the evening.
Bring a ball to this park. There's a big lawn near the playground where to kids can practice soccer or just kick the ball.
