Each year for the holidays, this community garden comes alive with Christmas lights, classic decorations, fairies, garlands, bows and so much more. This year, the garden highlights beloved classic Christmas stories you can walk through to experience a childlike sense of wonder.
Flowering Bridge, a Gateway to Somewhere Beautiful
The Flowering Bridge is the three-arch historic Bridge in Lake Lure, NC. Built in 1925, it connects Lake Lure and Chimney Rock and is one of Western North Carolina's most visited attractions, receiving about 200,000 visitors a year.
Called “A Gateway to Somewhere Beautiful,” this unique park features 30 gardens. More than 2000 species of plants and flowers grow here all year round. In 2013, the first twelve themed gardens were added, such as rock and succulent, rose, tropical, whimsical, wildflower and herb gardens. More recently, a pollinator, children’s and a dog gardens have also been planted.
Local artists and volunteer gardeners play a major role in maintaining the gardens, giving their time and talent to keep the magic of this whimsical place alive. The atmosphere of this place is completely different from other gardens we visited. It's much more kid-friendly with creative little surprises, art elements, gnomes, and fairies around every corner.
Christmas Lights on Lake Lure Flowering Bridge
December is a time when the sight of the Flowering Bridge's festive sparkle and lights can compete with the magnificent mountain scenery around. Twinkling lights, crimson bows, yards of ribbons, festive ornaments, and classic Christmas book installations brighten up the night. Pull on your winter layers and get swept up in the magic of it all!
The Polar express, A Christmas Carol, the Hoffmann’s classic Nutcracker, A Cup of Christmas Tea and many others will take you on a journey down memory lane.
This story about the incredible friendship between a cactus and a little girl who shared the joy for the holidays and proved that your wishes can come true if you believe hard enough.
There are also some hidden spots that you can duck into and have them all to yourself, even if only for a few minutes. During the day, some hidden passages may seem ordinary, but wait until the night falls to experience the magic of dripping twinkling lights in full swing.
