As a true cultural gem, the museum houses one of the most significant collections of African American art in the nation. Within its doors, you'll find the largest collection of clay vessels made by David Drake, a black artisan who was enslaved in Edgefield during the 1800s.

Beyond this, the museum is also the proud keeper of the largest collection of masterpieces by William H. Johnson outside of the Smithsonian. Johnson, a native of Florence, achieved critical acclaim in Europe in the first half of the 20th century, and remains a significant figure in American art history.

And the list of names does not end there. There are many other Black artists on the premises, including Kara Walker, Jacob Lawrence, Carrie Mae Weems, Beauford Delaney and many more. Each of these artists has made a significant contribution to the art world, and it's thrilling to have the opportunity to engage with their work.

You're sure to find something that sparks your interest and inspires your creativity.
