The Charlotte International Art Festival is currently taking place in Uptown Charlotte and Ballantyne's Backyard through September 29, 2024. This breathtaking, immersive experience is free for everyone to enjoy. We attended on opening weekend and loved it; there were many amazing art pieces, along with lawn games for kids. For the best experience, try to go at dusk. I hope you all get a chance to check it out!
Levine Ave of the Arts:
Constellation: Experience a breathtaking star-shaped canopy adorned with more than 21,000 twinkling LED lights that dance in harmony with the music, creating an enchanting atmosphere. Grab a bean bag, settle in, and enjoy the mesmerizing show as the lights twinkle overhead, transforming the space into a magical realm.
The Green:
Evanescent by Atelier Sisu: Step into a whimsical bubble cluster installation that invites you to touch and interact gently with its magical creations. As you wander through the three enormous shapes, immerse yourself in the bubbly labyrinth where you can engage with ever-changing reflections and a kaleidoscope of colors that illuminate the bubbles from within, creating a truly delightful adventure in this enchanting space.
Mariposa: Swing into joy on this beautifully illuminated butterfly swing, perfect for capturing memorable moments and fun photos.
Planet Pretend: Enter an imaginative realm that features a teddy bear, jellyfish, and a vibrant rainbow, complete with hidden doors waiting to be discovered!
The free Uptown segment of the CIAF is tailored for families and primarily located in the Green and Levine Avenue of the Arts. It offers an effortless way to immerse yourself in art while minimizing walking, especially if you visit with little kids. Start soaking in the captivating lights around dusk, though installations like the Bubbles and Planet Pretend are delightful to experience even during the daytime.

Admission: Free
Parking: Green Parking Lot (435 S Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202). Weekend and after 5 pm parking is $5, while during the day, it costs $3 for every 30 minutes. For added convenience, you can also opt for meter parking available along the streets.
After parking, make your way up to the Green, where the majority of the art activities are waiting for you!
