Jeter Mountain Farm: A Beautiful Fall Day Trip Near Hendersonville, NC

Jeter Mountain Farm in Hendersonville, NC

If the Hendersonville orchards were sisters, Jeter Mountain Farm would be the one who shows up to every party dressed to the nines. Everything here feels beautifully put together, from the rustic-chic buildings and spacious back porch to the rows of fruit trees stretching toward the mountains.

Jeter Mountain

Visiting Jeter Mountain Farm feels like a real fall outing rather than a quick stop for a bag of apples. There is enough to eat, see, pick, and explore that we can easily spend the entire day here.

By the time we finally head home, everyone is usually so pleasantly exhausted that no one has enough energy left to speak—and with children in the car, that is saying something!

More Than an Apple Orchard

Jeter Mountain Farm is located between Hendersonville and Brevard, within easy driving distance of Asheville and Greenville. Although apple picking may be the reason many families first visit, the farm offers a complete seasonal experience with U-pick fruit, wagon rides, an indoor play area, live music, food, coffee, baked treats, hard cider, and beautiful mountain views.

The farm manages to feel polished without losing its country charm.

You can pick fruit in the orchard, listen to bluegrass music, eat barbecue, sip coffee, and then settle onto the back porch while the children continue playing. It is rustic, but also stylish—the definition of rustic chic—and somehow it all works beautifully together.

U-Pick Apples and Seasonal Produce

Jeter Mountain Farm grows more than 25 apple varieties, so the U-pick selection changes as different apples ripen throughout the season. Depending on the timing of your visit, varieties may include Honeycrisp, Gala, McIntosh, Golden Delicious, Fuji, Red Gravenstein, Mutsu, Empire, WineCrisp, and several others.

Apples are only part of the harvest. The farm also offers seasonal U-pick peaches, blueberries, blackberries, flowers, and pumpkins. Blueberries and colorful zinnias generally begin appearing in July, followed by peaches and blackberries later in the summer. Apple season stretches from August into the fall, with pumpkins and late-season apples arriving as the weather cools.

Because Mother Nature follows her own schedule, availability can change from week to week. Check the farm’s current U-pick availability and harvest calendar before choosing your date.

Important: Reserve Your U-Pick Time

Beginning in 2026, Jeter Mountain Farm uses timed reservations for U-pick. A reservation is required for each person participating in the picking experience.

Advance reservations are the only way to guarantee a U-pick spot. Walk-up reservations may be available at the farm, but only if space remains. The last U-pick wagon departs for the fields at 3:30 p.m., so do not arrive near closing time if picking fruit is your main reason for visiting.

You do not need a reservation simply to enter the farm, shop, eat, enjoy the play area, or relax on the property. General admission remains free. Reserve your picking time through the farm’s Plan Your Visit page.

The Wagon Ride Is Part of the Experience

Depending on which crop you are picking, a tractor-pulled wagon may carry you from the main farm area into the orchard or fields. The ride adds to the experience, especially for children, and gives everyone another opportunity to enjoy the mountain scenery.

Closed-toe shoes are a good idea because orchard ground may be grassy, sloped, muddy, or uneven. A wagon or stroller can be helpful around the main farm, but it may not be practical in every picking field.

U-Pick Flowers and Endless Mountain Views

One of the most beautiful stops at Jeter Mountain Farm is the U-pick flower field. Colorful zinnias typically begin blooming around mid-July, although their availability depends on the weather and growing conditions. Visitors can ride a tractor-pulled wagon to the mountaintop field and cut their own flowers to take home. The flower field is also accessible to guests with limited mobility by using the farm’s wagon equipped with a wheelchair lift.

During our visit, the flower field was the final stop on our ride through the orchard—and what a grand finale it was.

Rows of colorful flowers filled the foreground while the fields and distant mountains seemed to stretch on and on. It was one of those views that made us slow down, breathe deeply, and stay a little longer than planned. Even if you do not intend to pick a bouquet, the scenery alone makes this stop worth the ride.

Flower availability is seasonal, so check the farm’s current U-pick selections and harvest calendar before visiting.

A Wonderful Indoor Play Area

One of the best features for families is the large covered indoor play area. It gives children room to climb, slide, and burn off energy while adults take a break nearby.

The covered setting is especially useful on hot, sunny days or when the weather is less than perfect. It also makes the farm easier to enjoy with children who may not be interested in spending hours carefully comparing apples on a tree.

This is not a place where we pick our fruit and immediately leave. The children always find another reason to keep playing, and the adults usually find another reason to remain on the porch.

The Mountain Views

The distant mountain views are what make Jeter feel particularly special to me. Between the orchards, open farmland, rustic buildings, and ridgelines rising in the distance, it is difficult to take a bad picture here.

There are plenty of beautiful places to pause for family photos, but the views are equally enjoyable when you put the camera away. Sometimes it is nice to sit on the back porch with a drink, look toward the mountains, and enjoy having nowhere else to be for a while.

Food Worth Staying For

You do not need to pack a complete picnic because Jeter Mountain Farm has enough food and drink options to turn an orchard visit into an all-day experience.

Orchard Baking Co.

The bakery is known for fresh apple cider donuts and other seasonal baked treats. A warm donut tastes especially good after walking through the orchard—and buying enough to take home is always a good idea.

Orchard Coffee House

The Orchard Coffee House serves handcrafted drinks made with locally roasted coffee. It is one of my favorite details because coffee and cool mountain air simply belong together.

1813 Smokehouse

Visitors looking for a full meal can stop at 1813 Smokehouse for barbecue. It makes it much easier to stay at the farm through lunch instead of cutting the visit short when everyone gets hungry.

The Cider Co.

The Cider Co. serves hard cider made with apples grown on the farm. Nonalcoholic sparkling cider and traditional fresh-pressed apple cider are also available, so the whole family can enjoy a seasonal drink.

More Treats

Depending on the season and operating schedule, visitors may also find ice cream from The Orchard Scoop and food from Uncles Burgers. The farm states that its food and beverage options are generally available throughout each open day. Explore the current choices on the Jeter Mountain Farm attractions page.

Live Bluegrass Music

Live bluegrass adds another layer to the atmosphere. During the orchard season, musicians are scheduled on open weekends from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The music carries across the main gathering area while families eat, shop, and relax. It is a small detail that makes the visit feel less like running an errand for apples and more like spending a fall day in the mountains.

The Farm Market

Before leaving, make time to walk through the farm market. In addition to pre-picked fruit and seasonal produce, the market carries items such as apple butter, pickles, salsa, candles, home goods, and locally inspired gifts.

Buying pre-picked apples is also an option if U-pick reservations are full—or if you realize after a full day at the farm that you no longer have the energy to carry another basket.

Is Jeter Mountain Farm Pet-Friendly?

Dogs are welcome in designated areas of the farm, but they are not permitted in the orchards or on the U-pick wagons. They may ride the parking shuttles that transport visitors between the lower parking areas and the main farm.

If apple picking is part of your plan, it may be easier to leave your dog at home because someone would need to remain behind with the pet while the rest of the family enters the orchard.

Accessibility

Jeter Mountain Farm has made many areas accessible to visitors with limited mobility. The parking areas, market, taproom, coffee shop, bakery, creamery, back porch, and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.

Accessible U-pick areas include designated apple and blueberry fields. Peach and flower fields require a wagon ride, and one tractor-pulled wagon is equipped with a wheelchair lift. The blackberry field is not considered wheelchair accessible. Since orchard terrain can still be grassy or sloped, families should consider each visitor’s individual mobility needs. Review the farm’s complete accessibility information before arriving.

Why We Love Jeter Mountain Farm

Jeter Mountain Farm is beautiful, organized, and undeniably photogenic, but that is not the only reason we enjoy it. It offers something for everyone without making the day feel overly scheduled.

The children can play and ride through the farm. We can pick apples, eat something delicious, listen to music, browse the market, and sit together while the mountain views stretch across the horizon. There is always one more corner to explore or one more treat someone wants to try.

It is the beautifully dressed sister of the Hendersonville orchard family—rustic chic, effortlessly charming, and always ready to turn an ordinary fall afternoon into a proper outing. We arrive expecting to stay for a little while and somehow spend the entire day. By the time we leave, our bags are full, our feet are tired, and everyone is quiet on the drive home.

That is usually how we know it was a very good day.
