Each evening, the Billy Graham Library grounds come alive with a festive celebration of Christmas and magical experiences for everyone. A live nativity scene, carolers, story time for kids, The Journey of Faith, Christmas lights, photo ops, horse-drawn carriage rides, handbell concert, and much more!
Christmas at the Library
We had such a great time at Christmas at the Library! It's got wholesome holiday fun, from carriage rides to live nativity scenes to The Journey of Faith and the Christmas lights, of course. Make sure to add this experience to your holiday bucket list.
Nativity Scenes
This is a special holiday activity perfect for the whole family. Under the Star of Bethlehem, among the animals, in a manger, the story of the Son of God, born of an earthly woman, begins.
Through the foot of the cross, you enter the barn.
Indoor decorations beautifully complement the decor outside. Beautiful surroundings, buildings and grounds.
The Journey of Faith
I highly recommend to set aside some time for The Journey of Faith. It's quite a long but such an inspiring tour. Informative, interesting, and beautifully executed with the support of multiple media and interactive installations, the quality of the exhibit is amazing. This growing-in-faith experience touches on the world-wide ministry of Billy Graham, his everyday life and marriage.
The journey begins on the farm where Billy Graham grew up and takes you through different ages and stages not only of this influential person, but also generations and nations across the globe. Crusades, the Evangelistic association, global church outreach, the civil rights movement, the Cold War, the apartheid era and so much more.
Each room is a different chapter of life. As you walk from room to room,
there will be a lot of information, videos and displays. In some
spaces, you will only stay for a few minutes to watch the video, in
others you can linger a little while to just quietly observe and ponder
on your own. Thoroughly-implemented displays and memorabilia transport visitors back to the time period when certain events occurred, like reaching the people behind the Iron Curtain or addressing the nation from the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C, after after 9/11.
Whether you want to strengthen your faith or simply enjoy an inspiring
story, you'll find what you're looking for here. I was not quite prepared for how unique and
thought-provoking this experience would turn out to be. Walking through
sometimes felt like time traveling, mental health counseling, and Bible
study, all at once. You finish the journey by walking through the foot of the cross.
The last step to take is to fill out the prayer request
for someone to pray with you on-site. It's absolutely optional but adds such a
personal, heart-to-heart moment to cap off the journey. Next is the book store.
Ruth's Attic
This well-stocked "attic" is a one-stop bookstore of Christian wisdom. Scripture-inspired, transformational titles, journals, novels, devotionals, gifts, and glass displays sweeping to the roof kept us around for quite some time.
There are plenty of seasonal ornaments and accessories to brighten up the season.
After Ruth's Attic we grabbed a bite at the Dairy Bar and headed outside to enjoy the Christmas lights in full swing.
You can walk then to the burial site of Billy Graham and his wife Ruth, and explore the first floor of the house where he grew up. Let me finish off by saying that the staff were really welcoming, friendly and accommodating to the guests. There was even a person who was offering visitors to take their pictures around the Christmas tree. A wonderful experience all around at no cost.
