Embark on a journey with the Spartanburg Library's 'Turtle Travels' exhibit, where a giant board game lets you navigate a turtle's trail through different landscapes, discovering the challenges and dangers it faces along the way!
The exhibit's location at the entrance to the children's area ensures
that it immediately captures the attention of young visitors as soon as
they enter. Heading down the stairs, you can't help but be amazed by what awaits below. The board game sprawls out like this huge canvas, filled with all sorts of interactive stations and bright, colorful tiles. And guess what? The game pieces are turtles, each one unique and ready for you to start playing with. It's like stepping into a magical world where a colorful canvas awaits for your imagination to come to life.
Giant Board Game
The game is on! Embark on an interactive journey by choosing your trusty turtle companion and stepping onto the board. Spin the turtles positioned on tree stumps to navigate through the trail.
Along the way, you will encounter detours where you can pause to discover more about the challenges turtles encounter. Navigate through the bustling streets, maneuver under a bridge and avoid the wildlife to make your way to the end of the trail.
Plan for an approximate duration of 30 minutes to complete the game. After completing the journey, kindly return your turtle to one of the designated stations so that others can also enjoy this experience. But trust me, the fun doesn't end here. There are plenty of things to touch, move, and learn about.
Interactive Displays
Sea turtles and land turtles are both fascinating creatures that have adapted to their environments in incredible ways. From the sea turtles' ability to navigate across entire oceans to the land turtles' ability to adapt to different climates and habitats, there's so much to learn and appreciate about these incredible animals. And as you explore, all the colorful and educational displays, they will clue you in on the secrets of turtle shells and much more.
As you keep moving along, try building your own turtle shell out of wooden blocks. You will need to stack them up to mimic the exoskeleton of a turtle shell. It's gonna be a fun challenge for the kiddos to make it stable.
After your turtle adventure, the children's library offers a fantastic continuation of fun! The large kid's area with a kitchen, drawing tables, and plenty of toys, along with endless shelves of books, ensures there's something for kids of all ages and interests. While the playground and maker space may be unavailable due to ongoing planetarium construction, the library provides plenty of other exciting activities to keep young minds engaged, including the summer reading challenge.
